BeKenya
Every trip we run helps fill a plate, keep a child in school and plant next season's harvest. It's the part of BeKenya you won't find in a brochure, and the part we're proudest of.
In short
We cook with children, we pay for school, and we help families grow their own food.
It happens in the communities we already travel through, together with our partner UTAMADUNI Organization. So far that's thousands of euros, and hundreds of people.
Three simple things, done again and again.
We cook with the children whose home it is, and sit down to eat with them at the same table.
Fees, uniforms, books. For many children school is a second home, so a lost term costs far more than lessons.
Seeds, tools and training, until the help is no longer needed. That's the whole point.
Mombasa, Nairobi, Thika, Watamu and more, run on the ground with UTAMADUNI Organization.
A feeding day at Suvia Children's Home, hosted by Mr. Mwanzia with FessyTours. Most of ours look close to this one.
You will probably arrive picturing yourself helping. Instead, the children take the kitchen off you. They wash, they chop. You end up outside, losing a sack race to someone half your height.
Before the meal they say grace together: Asante sana, asante Mungu, kwa chakula. Thank you very much. Thank God for the food. Everyone eats at the same table. When the plates are empty, somebody starts talking, and it turns serious fast. That school is worth finishing. That where they end up is not fixed yet, and that work, belief and staying at it are what decide it. That they are loved. The children take it better than you will.
Then the music starts, and the rest of the afternoon is songs, poems and dancing, until you cannot tell who came to visit whom.
“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
Your trip puts people to work first. Our guides, drivers and cooks are Kenyan and properly paid, on every day of every trip, not only on the days we cook. Steady work in the places we visit does more over a year than any number of good afternoons.
The visits are paid for out of what the business earns and what our partners put in. Never out of a donation box, and never as a surcharge on your booking.
Would you rather be there than only fund it? Tell us when you plan your trip and we'll arrange a visit. No extra charge, and no photo op.
Be real. Be kind. BeKenya.
Come and see it for yourself, or just ask us about it.
